Master Multiplication Fast By Using Arrays!

multiplication array is a simple method for students to understand and visualise an equation. When teaching Arrays, you can use any materials, food, pictures and shapes to represent a sum. For example, a cupcake tray is an array of small cakes. The cupcake tray below has three rows and four columns.

Multiplication arrays represent rows and columns that give the total factor, e.g., 3 x 4 is the same as 4 x 3.

Arrays are an excellent method to introduce multiplication to students. We use arrays to multiply. When we multiply, the number of objects in the group increases. Multiplication is putting equal groups together to get an answer. We see arrays every day in real life, such as egg carton, chocolate, cupcake trays, and so much more!

When multiplying, two numbers can switch in any order, and the answer will remain the same. For example, multiplying 6 x 2 will give you the same answer as multiplying 2 x 6.

Encourage students and set time for them to practice multiplication using arrays. Introduce new multiplication arrays facts gradually and give students time to practice the multiplication facts.
